As the new year approaches and we as a community begin slowing down to be with our loved ones, many of us are thinking about the best and most practical ways to be well in the new year. A lot of what Hospice entails is managing and promoting the wellbeing of family members and patients that may feel overwhelmed with the process of loosing a loved one. One of the best strategies to coping with difficult emotions that our chaplains and social workers actively promote to Amen Hospice families is the technique of letting go.
Letting go doesn't just mean forgetting about our feelings or disregarding them. In fact, it means the opposite. Letting go is all about uncovering the feelings behind our thoughts and letting them pass through us openly. It's not about judging our thoughts, but being able to feel the emotion behind them and focusing on that feeling until it goes away. Dr. David R. Hawkins explains this concept thoroughly and gives practical techniques to letting go in his book Letting Go: The Path to Surrender. https://amzn.to/3WP7XJh
