Staying in the moment and being “mindfully present” is difficult.
So much of our time is spent living in the past or future, yet people who are able to be in the moment tend to be more joyful, secure, and empathetic. In #hospice, we encourage our patients, and families to be more mindful of every moment they have. We help families notice and acknowledge the present and be in that place. Becoming aware of physical sensations, noticing things in their environment and, if their thoughts go to the future or past, we encourage them to bring them back to “right now." By being present in the moment, people can more fully live because life is now.
Take a few deep breaths, actually feel what your hands are touching, and know the gratitude of the present moment.
