2020 Walk to End Alzheimer's

Amen Hospice staff participated in the virtual walk to end Alzheimer’s disease recently. We walk because we care and because this disease impacts too many individuals and the families that care for them.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are more than 5 million Americans living with this disease. There are more than 16 million caregivers of people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias in the United States (act.alz.org, 2020).

This disease has a huge impact on our country, our communities, and the families we serve here at Amen Hospice. We realize that Alzheimer’s is a scary diagnosis for families and their loved ones to hear, especially as it is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Because of research and dedication from professionals at the Alzheimer’s Association, we now understand more about the disease than ever. Much more is needed to better understand how the disease works, how it impacts the body, and how it impacts the patients we care for at Amen Hospice, so we were happy to do our part by raising funds and walking to end Alzheimer’s.

Beyond walking, we also created our own Promise Garden. The Alzheimer’s Association states that the “Promise Garden is a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent participants’ connection to Alzheimer’s — their reasons to end the disease.

Blue: Someone with Alzheimer's or dementia.

Purple: An individual who has lost a loved one to the disease.

Yellow: A person who is currently supporting or caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s.

Orange: A participant who supports the cause and the Association's vision of a world without Alzheimer’s.” (act.alz.org, 2020)
